Located in the small but charming town of Ladysmith, is found one of the best Indian restaurants on Vancouver Island. Chefs Purnanad and Dinesh, before joining the team at Royal Dar, had been working at a 5 star restaurant in the Marriot Hotel in India. This amazing restaurant is run by quite the dynamic duo, husband and wife Gurb and Kam Gill, who are always at your service, bringing with them a friendly and gentle approach to Indian fine dining... On this day my dining partner and I were treated to the most splendiferous surprise... The Dum Dum, a vegetable mixture encased in a potato croquette, and topped with curry sauce. The Lamb Tikka, which is perfectly marinated in a tandoori sauce and cooked in a clay oven. The Paneer Tikka, which is homemade Indian cheese marinated in a spiced curry yogurt, was simply out of this world. Fabulous. The Tandoori Prawns and Chicken Jalfrazie (chicken in a tangy curry sauce) melted in my mouth. Indian style coleslaw and baked tomatoes surrounded the plate, which is meant to help cool the palate.

When we moved here from Ohio, we were so pleased to find an Indian restaurant of this quality in Ladysmith! You get what you pay for, which is high quality Indian food, takeout, and great customer service.

The restaurant is excellent in all respects, the decor is tasteful and cozy being in a renovated older house it keeps the homey feel. Fireplace on one side is warm and inviting. Second room can have a slight draft at times if you prefer to be cooler. I'm waiting for the outside patio in the summer, it overlooks the ocean below. My husband raved about the lamb dishes and I'm partial to vegetarian or seafood but so far have only tried the vegetarian selections and all have been amazing. Be hungry, they give you huge portions!

I was there for New Year's Eve 2006 and had the best curry chicken. The curry was delicious, nice and spicy and they have plenty of side dishes to go with it. You do not need an appy, it comes with your dinner. I highly recommend the restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic food in the beautiful setting of a restored character home. The outdoor patio is a must in the summer. Everything I've tried is delicious. The prices aren't cheap but you get what you pay for. This is made from scratch indian food with fresh ingredients.
